Google's Material Symbols (previously Material Icons) is an extensive set of icons designed by Google Fonts, created as a single Variable Font file. The icons can be downloaded with customized looks within the large design space spanning from weight, grade (for changing contrasts from dark to light background), rounded or sharp corners and outlined or filled shapes, so that they can be perfectly adjusted to the designs they are used in.
Together with Thomas Phinney and Vassil Kateliev, we got to extend the family with the production and adaptation of all icons designed in Regular by Google's Design team, and we had to keep track on consistency of the elements dimensions, shapes and contours data across the over 2,500 icons in order to create fluid transitions.
This was a team effort together with Google Fonts design team: Tobias Kunisch (Google Fonts Design Lead), Sehee Lee (Senior Visual Designer), Dave Crossland (Google Fonts Program Manager) and with Thomas Phinney and Vassil Kateliev.
