Oni Display is a typeface family intentionally designed to be used at large sizes with its extravagant personality.
From a slanted contrast axis specific to transitional typefaces, Oni Display is the result of exploration with exaggerated features between the sharpness of the solid serifs and discontinuous strokes, and the curves of wavy arches and rounded letters.
Some particularities of the Latin letterforms were easily adapted to Chinese Hanzi, taking the blend of sharp smoothness quite instinctively without losing their own nature. And the common squarish proportions of Hanzi made an influence on Latin letters that added to the reflection of two writing systems that are otherwise different in everything.
Oni Display has been designed in collaboration with Loris Olivier from lo-ol Type, where the Latin character set is available. The Chinese set is in progress.
